Christmas celebrations in Quinamayo, Colombia, take place every year in February. The reason they're held 40 days after the traditional birth date of Jesus date back to the days of slavery, when many Afro-Colombians were forced to work during the festivities.

In an act of cultural resistance preserved for nearly 200 years, the town becomes abuzz with music and dancing. Brass bands parade through the streets and local children play biblical characters, gathering around a black baby Jesus.
