The disparity between the number of issued National Identification Numbers (NINs) and Nigeria's population raises concerns that the country's population may be overestimated. As of December, there were 104.16 million issued NINs, a figure that is less than 50 per cent of Nigeria’s estimated population. This suggests that there is a gap of 113.8 million. However, some ‘experts’ believe that the slow NIN registration rate is due to poor documentation and insecurity.
