Projecting which Patriots WRs will make the final roster out of training camp

The entered this offseason with a clear and obvious need at wide receiver, and they addre sed it by drafting two rookies in the first and fourth rounds and signing some veterans and undrafted free agents. While training camp is roughly a month away New England will have to decide which wide receivers make the final roster for their Week 1 battle with the Cincinnati Bengals.A lot will change in the next two months of work on the field and off of it, but let's take a look at where each receiver currently stands and project who will be left after roster cuts.Locks:Kendrick BourneBourne was New England's best receiver in 2021 before Matt Patricia took over the offense, and the wideout landed in the dog house for the 2022 season. A torn ACL ended Bourne's season in 2023 after Brandin Echols Jersey eight games, but he still got an extension this offseason with the team, so they clearly believe in him.DeMario DouglasDouglas was the Patriots' best receiver last year, putting up the best season any rookie Curtis Martin Jersey wideout had during Bill Belichick's tenure. He should enter this season, as New England's slot.Ja'Lynn PolkThe Patriots used their second-round pick on Polk, and the former Washington Husky seemed to be catching on during mandatory minicamp. It would take something drastic for him not to make the team this year.Javon BakerBaker was one of New England's fourth-round picks this year out of UCF. His highlights in college were impre sive, but he also had some consistency i sues. Teams don't usually move on from a mid-round pick so easily before their rookie year, so Baker should be locked in.K.J. OsbornNew England didn't sign many notable veterans this offseason, but Osborn was one of them. In the last three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, he recorded 158 receptions for 1,845 yards and 15 touchdowns. With more opportunities, he should see those numbers jump a bit.Competing for a spot:Tyquan ThorntonNew England's 2022 second-round pick has struggled to make an impact in his first two seasons, appearing in 22 games and recording just 35 receptions for 338 yards and two Joe Klecko Jersey touchdowns. If he can't stay healthy or create separation in camp, his time with the Patriots could come to a close.JuJu Smith-SchusterWhen it was revealed that the Patriots signed Smith-Schuster last offseason knowing that he had a knee injury, there was collective confusion acro s the region. He ended up playing in just 11 games and bringing in just 29 pa ses for 260 yards and one score. The only reason to keep him around right now is the $9.63 million dead cap penalty that they'd incur.Jalen ReagorThe former first-round pick found a small role in New England's offense and special teams units last season. His most likely pathway to make this team is as a returner, but they have a few guys who could fill that role.Kayshon BoutteBoutte was hyped up before his rookie season in 2023 after being drafted out of LSU, but two failed sidelined catch attempts against the Philadelphia Eagles seemed to land him in the dog house. He finished the year with just two receptions for 19 yards. Add in the arrest for gambling, and it doesn't seem like Boutte has the best chances in 2024.Longshots:Kawaan BakerBaker has been in the league for three seasons and has never played an offensive Jarrod Wilson Jersey snap. He saw the field on special teams in two games for the New Orleans Saints as a rookie in 2021.JaQuae JacksonJackson went undrafted out of Rutgers this season before signing with the Atlanta Falcons. New England claimed him off of waivers in early June.David WallisWallis played collegiately at Division III's Randolph-Macon, and the Patriots signed him in June after a minicamp tryout.Final Projection:Most NFL teams only keep six wideouts on the active roster, and with five locks, there's a chance that only one other receiver makes it.If they only keep six, and Bourne doesn't start on PUP, New England's wide receiver group should be:Kendrick BourneDeMario Carl Lawson Jersey DouglasJa'Lynn PolkJavon BakerK.J. OsbornJalen ReagorThey should cut bait with Smith-Schuster while they have the cap space and open more up for next offseason. They could probably get away with stashing Thornton and Boutte on the practice squad if they really wanted them.
