Once approved, the lawyer will be able to review questions and select which ones they would like to take. Each question is posted in a particular category, such as “housing” or “debt”, which helps the lawyer to quickly find a question they want to answer. Lawyers are encouraged to contact the user if they have any additional questions or need more information to provide an adequate response.
The lawyer/client relationship is limited in scope and duration as described in the use agreements for both users and lawyers. The attorney will only provide an answer to a legal question and will not represent the client in any continuing representation. The legal advice is provided in accordance with the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and New York State Bar Association Ethics Rules.

In addition, the NYC Department of Small Business Services offers one-on-one business consultations with pro bono attorneys through the NYC Small Business Lease Assistance Partnership (LAP), a public-private initiative designed to help evicted small businesses find new commercial spaces and avoid costly commercial landlord fees. For business owners looking to start a new business, this program provides access to lawyers who can advise them on legal structures, employment and human resources matters and assist with negotiating commercial leases.
LawHelp
For low-income people who need legal help but cannot afford a lawyer, many local bar associations and state court systems have programs that match people with volunteer lawyers for free or reduced-cost advice. You can use the ABA free legal answers service to find a program near you. There are also not-for-profit legal aid offices (also called legal services) that provide free or low-cost representation for people with many types of legal problems, including family law, evictions, foreclosures, housing, income maintenance, public benefits and debt collection. Many legal aid offices only serve people with very low incomes, but some have more flexible rules. Some legal aid offices have self-help centers that provide workshops and informational materials to help people represent themselves in court without a lawyer.
